2013 Topeka 4th of July Road Run

You are invited to celebrate July 4th by lacing up your sneakers for the 2013 Topeka 4th of July Road Run. Held annually for over 30 years, it is one of the oldest runs in Indiana. Last year, 174 runners made it a great event. This year, the race will take place on the morning of Thursday, July 4 at the Topeka Town Park across from Tiffany’s Restaurant. The address is 510 E. Lake Street, Topeka, IN 46571.

The Road Run has two great events for the whole family. We will kick things off at 8:10 a.m. with a One-Mile Fun Run for kids 13 and under. It’s a great opportunity for kids to try something new and get active. Medals will be awarded to the top three boys and girls, and all kids will receive a participation prize. At 8:30, the 5K race, open to all ages, will begin from the park and wind its way through the streets of Topeka. Prizes will be awarded to the top three men and women overall as well as to the top two finishers in each age division.

One lucky winner will also leave the race with a special prize. After the race, there will be a drawing for a brand new, stainless steel Charbroil grill valued at over $300. Every runner who completes the 5K race will be entered in the drawing, so get in shape and give it a try!

Both races will be timed using professional, disposable chips which provide instant scoring. The course is flat and fast—great for experienced runners and those trying it for the first time. Also, free snacks, water, and Gatorade will be available before the race. Registration is available the morning of the race from 7 to 8 a.m., however, you are encouraged to pre-register before July 1 to receive a discounted price. Before July 1, the cost of the Fun Run is $8 and the 5K is $15. After July 1, the Fun Run cost is $10 and the 5K is $20. You can pre-register and find all race day information at www.topekaroadrace.com. Entry forms are also available at the Topeka Pharmacy. Everyone who pre-registers is guaranteed a race T-shirt. All those who register the morning of the race will receive T-shirts while supplies last.

Whether you are an experienced runner or thinking about trying it for the first time, this race features a fun, laid back atmosphere that you will enjoy—plus, you might walk away with a new grill! This year, add the Topeka Road Run to your list of July 4 traditions. All proceeds from the race will benefit the Westview High School tennis program.
