(ANGOLA) - A packed house was on hand Friday night as Grammy award winner Lee Greenwood gave the first performance in the newly dedicated T. Furth Center for the Performing Arts. Greenwood and his band performed for about 90 minutes. The concert included his Grammy winning hit I.O.U. from 1985. Greenwood closed the show by performing his signature song "God Bless the U.S.A." which topped the charts during the Persian Gulf War in 1991 and again ten years later in the days after 9-11. Greenwood arrived in Angola Friday morning. Since his show was going to be the first one in the Furth Center, Greenwood and his band had to go through a longer-than-normal sound check on Friday afternoon. Greenwood said everybody has been fabulous to him in Angola. He was impressed with the Furth Center calling it a beautiful facility. Greenwood will be back in northeast Indiana in a couple of weeks. He and Crystal Gayle will be performing at the Shipshewana Event Center on May 16th.
