(ORLAND) - Steuben County Highway Department Superintendent Kenny Penick was killed Saturday night when his motorcycle crashed into a vehicle on State Road 120 and 650 West. The Steuben County Sheriffs Department says the 66-year-old Penick, who lived in Orland, was driving his motorcycle west on 120 at about 9:50pm when he crashed into a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox that was driven by 78-year-old Donald Stanfield of Defiance, Ohio. Police say Stanfield had stopped at the stop sign and was beginning to turn left onto 120 when Penick's motorcycle struck the drivers side door. Penick was pronounced dead at the scene by Steuben County Deputy Coroner Rodney Snyder. The Sheriffs Department says Penick was not wearing a helmet. Stanfield suffered a contusion to his face and arm. A passenger, 71-year-old Charleen Stanfield, suffered chest pain. The Stanfields were treated and released at Cameron Hospital. The accident is still under investigation. The Sheriffs Department were assisted by Angola Police, the Orland Marshal's Office, Steuben County E.M.S., Orland Fire-Rescue and the Steuben County Coroners office.
