(GENTIAN LAKE) - The public is invited to attend the formal dedication and grand opening of the Trine State Recreation Area this Thursday afternoon at 2:00pm. Indiana Governor Mike Pence and Indiana D.N.R. Director Cameron Clark are both scheduled to be on hand for the ceremony.
Following the dedication ceremony, there will be an optional walk along one of the trails. Refreshments will be provided by the Potawatomi Inn.
The Trine S.R.A. has been open to the public since a soft opening last November. The Grand Opening coincides with the opening of the 12 cabins at the Trine S.R.A.. The cabins are available for overnight rental.
Admission for the dedication and on the weekend after the dedication will be free so that visitors can explore the site. Rental fees for facilities will be in effect.
The Trine S.R.A. was known as the Wing Haven Resort from 1948 until 1972. It was the Camp Calvary church camp and Oakhill Resort and Conference Center from 1972 until 2006. The property was acquired through the 101 Lakes Land Trust, ACRES Land Trust and The Nature Conservancy and was made possible through a major contribution from Steuben County residents Sheri and Ralph Trine. The 200 acre property has been renovated since its purchase in 2006 which included reducing the number of buildings on the propewrty from 59 down to 18.
