(LAGRANGE COUNTY) - A violation of Indiana's "Move Over" law led to a large drug bust on the Toll Road in LaGrange County last Friday afternoon. Indiana State Police say 59-year-old David Crane Pemberton of Mount Vernon, Washington was heading east near the 111.8 mile marker when he failed to move his van into the next lane as he passed a Toll Road maintenance vehicle and worker.
Trooper Ted Bohner stopped the vehicle and became suspicious after a brief conversation with Pemberton. He called for Trooper Nicholas Meade and his K-9 partner Sabre’s assistance. After conducting an open air sniff, Sabre alerted on the van. Bohner then conducted a search and found numerous packages which State Police say totaled 87 pounds of marijuana along with over 1,000 grams of marijuana wax.
Pemberton was taken into custody without incident and booked at the LaGrange County Jail on preliminary charges of dealing more than 10 pounds of marijuana and being in possession of over 10 pounds of marijuana. He was held on a $20,000 bond and has since bonded out after his initial hearing.
