(ANGOLA) - A second plea agreement in the case of a man who was charged with a Class C felony of neglect of a dependent was accepted on Monday by Steuben Superior Court Judge William Fee. 37-year-old Chad Allen Traster entered a guilty plea to the charge as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors on April 21st. He was given a seven year sentence with 127 days credit for time already served and another 127 days for good time credit. Traster was arrested after an investigation by the Steuben County Sheriffs Department that started in November of 2012 with a report of suspected child abuse involving a then three month old child. The Sheriffs Department said at the time of the arrest that the incident allegedly took place at a rural Steuben Township home in the 4500 block of south Old U.S. 27. The incident turned into a death investigation subsequently when the child passed away. It was determined that the child’s death was due to circumstances unrelated to the original injuries that were reported initially.
