(PORTER TOWNSHIP) – Two Cass County residents received injuries when they crashed their car trying to avoid a deer.
The Cass County Sheriff's Department says 53 year old Michael Dudkiewicz of Vandalia was driving north on Baldwin Prairie Road near Chapel Hill Street when he attempted to miss a deer in the roadway. Dudkiewicz lost control of his automobile, went off the road and struck several trees.
Dudkiewicz and his passenger, 24 year old James Dudkiewicz, were taken by a friend to their residence and then contacted Cass County Dispatch for an ambulance. From their home the men were both taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Deputies say seatbelts were worn by both men and that alcohol is a factor in the incident, which remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were the Porter Township Fire and Ambulance and the Edwardsburg Ambulance.
