(PORTER TOWNSHIP) – Four people were sent to the hospital following a two vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon.
The Cass County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to a two vehicle crash at 2:25 PM Tuesday near the intersection of M-40 and U.S. 12 in Porter Township.
Deputies say 52 year old Wayne Hammons of Cicero, Indiana was driving east on U.S. 12 and stopped his vehicle in the straight only lane, with the intention of changing lanes. A second vehicle, driven by 18 year old Laurana Cook of White Pigeon, rear-ended Hammons' automobile.
Medics from the Newberg Township Fire Department and Porter Ambulance took Hammons and Cook along with Cook's passengers 22 year old Candace Fitt of Union and 24 year old Melanie Nering of Allegan, to Three Rivers Health for treatment of their injuries.
Deputies say all four individuals were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation.
