(UNDATED) - Steuben County residents took time yesterday to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Memorial Day ceremonies were held on the mound in downtown Angola, at Pleasant Lake Elementary School, in Fremont and in Hamilton.
American Legion 4th District Commander Robert L. Miller spoke during the Angola ceremony and said Americans should not just honor those with the most medals. He also said most of those who died while serving their country were under the age of 25 and that in the eyes of their families, they were forever young.
State Senator Sue Glick said in Pleasant Lake that the loss of service members is felt throughout generations and that the nation pauses every year on Memorial Day to reflect on the magnitude of its loss.
In Fremont, there was a parade and a ceremony at the American Legion Post. In Hamilton, there were ceremonies at both the Mill Pond and the Hamilton Cemetery.
