(PORTER TOWNSHIP) – No one was injured in a hit and run accident in Cass County.
Sheriff Joseph Underwood says his deputies were called to M-40 and Shavehead Lake Street at 8:45 Wednesday morning. Officers arrived and found that the vehicle which caused the accident had left the scene.
Deputies say 30 year old Dr. Robert Monfore and three nurses were driving north on M-40. Monfore and an another witness told officers the suspect vehicle was heading east and either stopped or rolled through the intersection at Shavehead Lake Street.
The suspect vehicle then crossed in front of Monfore's vehicle. Monfore says he tried to avoid the crash but ended up striking the other vehicle. The second vehicle then left the area, heading east and never checking on Monfore or his passengers.
Monfore and his passengers were not injured.
The suspect vehicle is a tan SUV, believed to be an early to mid 1990's Jeep Cherokee with two occupants. The vehicle was struck in the right rear corner and should have extensive damage.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who has information on the vehicle is asked to contact the Cass County Sheriff's Department by calling at 269-445-2481.
