Sisson And Millet Named Citizens Of The Year

(STURGIS) – Two people who share a love of their community have received a special recognition.

Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cathi Abbs has announced the 2014 Citizens Of The Year as Lyle “Skip” Sisson and Dr. Kerri Millett.

Millett is a 1977 graduate of Sturgis High School. She went to Nazareth College, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree and then attended the University of Detroit Dental School where she graduated in 1985.

Millett moved back to Sturgis and opened KLM Dentistry in 1990. In 1999, she was appointed to the Sturgis Board of Education and has been re-elected four times. In addition, Millett has been a member of the Sturgis Exchange Club and SABEA.

Millett says she was a little stunned when she was told she had been named one of the Citizens of the Year. ...... {LISTEN}.

Sisson is a Plainwell native. After graduating from college, he began his career in education as a teacher and a coach. After other stops, Sisson and his family came to Sturgis where he served as the Director of Community Schools, Assistant Superintendent and eventually Superintendent of Public Schools.

Following his retirement, Sisson has remained busy and involved in the community, by being a member of the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Thurston Woods Board of Directors. Sisson says it's not just a matter of staying involved, but also continuing to learn. ...... {LISTEN}.

Both Sisson and Millet will be honored during the Sturgis Fest Dinner, which is set for June 23.
