(CASSOPOLIS) – The driver of a vehicle involved in a hit and run accident in Cass County contacted authorities Thursday.
Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood says 18 year old Makayla Parsons of White Pigeon called his office and said she had been involved in the incident that happened Wednesday morning at M-40 and Shavehead Lake Road in Porter Township.
Deputies say 30 year old Dr. Robert Monfore and three nurses were driving north on M-40 when Parsons' vehicle, which was heading east, either stopped or rolled through the intersection at Shavehead Lake Road and into the path of Monfore's vehicle. Monfore says he attempted to avoid the crash, but struck Parsons' vehicle.
Parsons left the scene, heading east. Monfore and his passengers were not injured.
Parsons told authorities she was taking a juvenile passenger to school at the time of the crash. Her account of what happened matched the information gathered at the scene.
Parsons was issued citations related to the crash.
