TOPEKA - A woman saved her husband from drowning Friday evening at Mirror Lake near Topeka.
Roberta Heidenreich of Saint John saw her husband, William, fall from his row boat into the lake and grabbed a life vest and seat cushion. Roberta, who is a weak swimmer, dog paddled about 100 yards out to her 67-year-old husband, who was about to go under for the third time, and handed him the flotation device.
Orange Township firefighter Ty Conley took a nearby rowboat out to the couple and towed them safely to shore.
Although shaken up, the Heidenreichs were not injured.
Conservation Officer Rod Clear says the incident shows the necessity of personal flotation devices while boating.
