(CASSOPOLIS) – Investigators have released more information on a body found in a house fire.
Captain Lyndon Parrish of the Cass County Sheriff's Department says an autopsy has been performed on the victim found in a fire at a residence in the 17000 block of Chain Lake Road in Vandalia on Thursday. Results from the autopsy showed the victim died from injuries sustained in that fire and that foul play is not suspected in the death.
The cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined, however, no evidence was found to lead investigators to believe that arson is suspected.
Parrish says a positive identification of the victim will not be known until the results of DNA testing is completed, which could take up to 60 days. It should be noted, however, that the owner of the residence is 78 year old Lucy Pargo, who lived their alone and has not been seen since.
Investigators believe that it is likely she is the victim of this fire.
The incident remains under investigation until the victim has been identified.
