(STURGIS) – A program that has helped Sturgis Public School students prepare for post high school degrees is looking to go county wide.

During Tuesday's meeting, the St. Joseph County Commission heard a presentation to take Sturgis SUCCES and make it a program for everyone in the County called the College Access Network.

Sturgis SUCCESS is designed to help high school students and their families increase post high school education readiness by showing them what courses to take to prepare for college or a certificate program. Sturgis SUCCESS also explains financial responsibility to the students and their family and how to graduate with as little debt as possible.

Sturgis SUCCESS Coordinator Claudia Pahls goes over the funding aspect of the College Access Network. ...... {LISTEN}.

The budget request is just under $134,000 in the first year.

Pahls says the proposal is supported by all of the Superintendents in the County, Glen Oaks Community College, the St. Joseph County EDC, municipalities, Chambers of Commerce, Community Foundations and residents who have benefitted from the existing network or who want the service available to them in their own home towns.

The Commission approved the program and the funding request. They asked that the College Access Network Coordinator provide quarterly reports to see how the program is doing.
