INDIANAPOLIS - Jobless rates rose slightly around Northeast Indiana during May.
Indiana Workforce Development says LaGrange County continued to have the area’s lowest unemployment rate at 4.5 percent – an increase of two-tenths.
Noble and DeKalb Counties rose from 5 to 5.2 percent in May, Elkhart County from 5 to 5.3 percent, and Steuben County from 5.4 to 5.6 percent.
Statewide the jobless rate held steady at 5.7 percent. Workforce Development said about 2,000 unemployed Hoosiers returned to the workforce seeking jobs last month. The state added 4,800 private sectors jobs during month with Private Educational and Health Services leading the way.
Claims for state employment insurance were more than 10,000 below last May’s level.
