(ANGOLA) - An old fire hydrant stub that was not known about was hit by an excavator on Monday during work on the Streetscape project along West Maumee near Darling. The break caused water service to go out in a three block area on the west side of Angola. It was reported at about 9:30am. Among those affected was Cahoot's Coffee Cafe as they were forced to close. Angola Water Department crews finished their repairs at around 1:00pm. A boil water advisory was issued between the 200 and 500 blocks of West Maumee.
The water disruption added to what is going to be a trying week for drivers on Angola's west side. Repair work on the Indiana Northeast Railroad track started Monday morning which has forced West Maumee to be shut down in both directions between Kinney and Jackson. INDOT says the rail crossing work is scheduled to be finished by Friday evening, weather permitting.
West bound traffic from west of the Monument continues to be closed because of the Streetscape project.
