Millett And Sisson Honored By Awards

(STURGIS) – Two special people were recognized for their contributions to Sturgis.

During Monday's Sturgis Fest Kick Off Dinner, Dr. Kerri Millett and Lyle “Skip” Sisson were honored as the 2014 Citizens Of The Year.

Millett is a graduate of Sturgis High School, Nazareth College and The University of Detroit Dental School. She and her husband Dr. John Polzin moved back to Sturgis where she opened her own dental office in 1990.

Millett gives back to the community in several ways. She is a long-time member of the Sturgis Board of Education, the Sturgis Area Business Education Alliance, the Sturgis Exchange Club and the St. Joseph County CTE.

Millett says the reason she is able to give back to Sturgis is because of the support she receives from her family and especially her husband. ...... {LISTEN}.

Sisson is an Otsego native who came to Sturgis in 1973 where he has served Sturgis Public Schools as Community Education Director, Business Manager, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent. During his time with the Sturgis Schools he was involved in overseeing the building of the Community Pool and the passage of the bond issue that built Eastwood School.

Sisson is a member of the Sturgis Rotary and Elks Clubs. He currently serves as a board member for the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce, Thurston Woods Village and has been a board member of the Sturgis United Way.

Millett and Sisson were presented with their Citizen Of The Year proclamations by State Representative Matt Lori and State Senator Bruce Caswell, respectively.
