(ANGOLA) - Frontier Communications says crews working on Steuben County's portion of the bike trail cut a fiber optic line near Hoosier Hill on Wednesday morning which knocked out 9-1-1 service in some areas. The cut also affected phone and internet service for some but not all Frontier Communications in Fremont, Angola and Hamilton. Fremont and Angola were at first the only areas affected by the 9-1-1 outage in Steuben County. Their fire departments were called into their stations and residents were told to go there in case of an emergency. Steuben County Communications Interim Director Ken Lowden said late Wednesday morning that Fremont phone exchanges were the only ones affected by the 9-1-1 outage. He has been told by Frontier that service is expected to be restored by 4:00pm Wednesday afternoon.
Frontier said in a statement that they wanted to assure customers crews are working to repair the cable and restore phone and Internet service.
They are also thanking customers for their patience during this service interruption.
