(ANGOLA) - Steuben County Interim Communications Director Ken Lowden says they were notified by Frontier Communication at 8:15pm Wednesday night that all phone service in Steuben County had been restored. The outage was reported at about 9:30am Wednesday morning after a contractor working on Steuben County's portion of the bike trail cut a fiber optic line on Hoosier Hill.
The cut knocked out 9-1-1 service in some areas of Steuben County and forced Angola and Fremont firefighters to man their stations in case an emergency was reported. The cut also affected phone and internet service for some but not all Frontier Communications in Fremont, Angola and Hamilton. Lowden said later on that Fremont phone exchanges were the only ones affected by the 9-1-1 outage.
