(ANGOLA) - With the 4th of July holiday upon us, the Angola Fire and Police Departments and Steuben County Sheriffs Office are promoting safe, responsible fireworks use.
If you have a complaint about fireworks in the city of Angola, call Angola Police at 665-2121. In Steuben County, call County Communications at 665-5521. DO NOT CALL 911. 911 is for emergencies only.
Indiana State law allows adults 18 and older to purchase fireworks for use on the user's property or the property of someone who has consented to the use of fireworks or at a special discharge location designated by the State Fire Marshal.
State Law also states that fireworks maybe discharged from 9:00am until midnight on the 4th of July and from 9:00am until 11:00pm on any other day of the year.
But under a Steuben County ordinance, fireworks can only be used between 5:00pm and two hours after sunset between June 29th and July 3rd and from July 5th through the 9th. The ordinance also allows fireworks to be shot off on the 4th of July between 10:00am and midnight.
Safety tips include never letting children handle, play with or light any fireworks. You should buy your fireworks from a reliable, licensed firework dealer. Also, use fireworks in a clear open area and keep your audience a safe distance away.
