(STURGIS) – A suicidal man who one week ago surrendered to police after a four hour standoff held police at bay again on Friday before taking his own life.
Sturgis Police were called to the 600 block of Devonshire Street on a report of a suicidal 31 year old man who was armed with a gun.
The first officers on scene set up a perimeter and attempted to establish communications with the man but were not successful. The St. Joseph County Special Response Team was called in to assist.
After three hours of unsuccessful attempts at establishing communication with the man, the Special Response Team entered the residence and found the man dead from a self-inflicted gun shot wound.
On June 20, the same man held authorities at bay for four hours in the same house before surrendering.
Sturgis Director of Public Safety Geoff Smith would like to thank the Sturgis Fire Department, Life Care Ambulance, the St. Joseph County Special Response Team and the Michigan State Police for their assistance with this most recent incident.
