(ANGOLA) - A rural Angola man is facing six charges after he allegedly punched another man in the face and injured two police officers during a drunken confrontation on Sunday morning at Hamilton Lake. 29 year old James Lee Hesterman is facing three felony battery charges including a Class B felony for Aggravated Battery as well resisting law enforcement and Operating While Intoxicated counts. According to Steuben County Court documents, the incident happened at Russell's Point on Lane 280 at about 3:20am.

The man Hesterman allegedly punched was flown out to Parkview Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries. At last report, the man was in stable condition in the hospital's intensive care unit. The alleged victims wife told police that her husband had gone out to Hesterman's vehicle after he hit two cars and got stuck in the gravel. When he offered assistance, the man was punched in the face and neck area.

Hesterman was also charged with kicking Steuben County Sheriff's Deputy Brad Kline in the leg while he was being placed into custody and forcibly resisting Hamilton Police Officer John Geyer which caused the officer to suffer multiple abrasions.

Bail during Mondays initial hearing was set at $50,000 and a no contact order was issued on behalf of the alleged victim and his wife. Not guilty pleas were entered on behalf of Hesterman. His case will go through Steuben Circuit Court where a pre-trial was scheduled for August 18th.
