(UNDATED) - NIPSCO says it is expected to take multiple days for all of their customers to get back on line after the severe storms went through northern Indiana during the wee hours of the morning on Tuesday.
Customers will have power restored around the clock. NIPSCO crews and contracted workers from Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Missouri worked Tuesday to assess damage to the electric system and restore customers.
The National Weather Service says the storms which caused the outages carried heavy rain, lightning and winds in excess of 80 miles per hour.
NIPSCO has restored 62,000 of the 121,000 total customers affected by outages related to this storm. The largest percentage of the nearly 59,000 remaining customer outages are located in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties, although nearly all service areas are reporting electric outages.
Customers without power can report an outage from a smart phone or other mobile device, on a computer via NIPSCO.com/OutageCenter or by calling NIPSCO Customer Service at 1-800-4NIPSCO (1-800-464-7726).
