INDIANAPOLIS – As far as the State of Indiana is concerned, those same sex marriages that followed a federal judge's ruling striking down the state's ban never happened.
Governor Mike Pence's General Counsel Mark Ahern issued a memo to all executive branch agencies on the status of same sex marriages. Ahern said the agencies are to execute their functions as though Judge Richard Young's ruling was never issued.
The state is appealing Young's decision and the 7th Circuit U-S Court of Appeals issued a stay of the ruling pending that appeal.
Ahern wrote the state will comply with the Court of Appeals order recognizing the marriage of Amy Sandler and Nikole Quasney. Quasney suffers from late stage ovarian cancer.
