(ANGOLA) - Emmett Heller has taken over as the Steuben County Highway Department Superintendent. County Commission Chair Ron Smith made the announcement on Thursday, three days after Heller was selected by Commissioners. His name was not revealed until after he accepted the position. Heller's first day of work was on Wednesday. He is a native of Camden, Michigan and previously worked as a self-employed truck driver.
Smith said there were 10 applications for the Highway Superintendents job. The 61-year-old Heller takes over for Ken Penick who was killed in a May motorcycle accident.
Commissioners also selected a new 911 Communications Director on Monday but the name of that person has not been released. Smith says they are still to hear if the candidate will accept the job.
