Palmer Testifies In Brown Trial
Thursday Jul 10, 2014 11:00pm
Centreville, MI

(CENTREVILLE) – After six days of testimony, it will now be up to a jury to decide the fate of Andy Brown.

Both the prosecution and the defense rested their cases in the trial of the 37 year old Portage man who is accused of first degree premeditated murder in the shooting death of David Locey of Sturgis on October 2, 2013.

Detective-Sergeant Lonnie Palmer of the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department was the lead investigator in this case. Palmer took the stand Wednesday and said he was called to the Locey CPA office on October 2 for a shooting incident.

After a short time, he made contact with Andy Brown who was walking around in circles and appeared to be dry heaving. Palmer asked Brown if he would come to the Sheriff's Department for an interview and Brown agreed.

Palmer says he and Detective-Sergeant Todd Petersen of the Michigan State Police conducted the interview with Brown. One of the topics they discussed according to Palmer was the alleged embezzlement charges against Brown. ...... {LISTEN}.

Palmer says Brown was nervous as they talked about the embezzlement but seemed to become calm as the interview went along. When the topic turned to Locey's murder, Palmer says Brown became a little more uneasy. ...... {LISTEN}.

Palmer says as the the questioning continued, Brown offered Scott Elkins, his wife and brothers as possible suspects in Locey's murder. Palmer says they were ruled out because they all had alibis.

Defense attorney Mike Hills asked for a directed verdict of acquittal, which was denied. He then called three witnesses before resting his case.

Closing arguments will be heard this morning in St. Joseph County Circuit Court.
