(SILVER LAKE) - A two vehicle head on crash on 150 South west of Golden Lake Road on Sunday evening resulted in injuries to eight people including six children. One of the youngsters, eight-year-old Onyx Delacruz of Angola, was flown out by the Samaritan Helicopter to Parkview Hospital.
The Steuben County Sheriffs Department says 24-year-old Nicole Tibbetts of Angola was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta which had seven children inside. They were between the ages of one and 13. The vehicle went left of center at about 6:15pm and struck a 2004 Chevrolet Impala driven by 60-year-old Sandra Wickham of Angola.
The Sheriffs Department says one-year-old Adrian Delacruz was the only child in the Tibbetts vehicle properly restrained in a device required by law. The youngster was taken to Cameron Hospital for an evaluation but did not appear to be injured.
According to one of the passengers, Tibbetts was trying to get one of the unrestrained children to sit down before the car went left of center.
The two drivers as well as five other children were taken to Cameron Hospital for treatment.
The Sheriffs Department cited Tibbetts for seven seat belt violations as well as expired registration, left of center and no proof of insurance. A report will be filed with the Steuben County Prosecutors Office for review along with the Division of Family and Children.
The accident is still under investigation. Assisting the Sheriffs Department were Angola Police, Indiana State Police, Angola firefighters, Steuben County E.M.S. and the Samaritan Helicopter.
