KENDALLVILLE - The Kendallville Public Library Board selected the lowest bidder Wednesday to finish the library's lower level.
Michael Kinder and Sons of Fort Wayne bid of $417,400 was more than $3,000 lower than the next closest bid and nearly $60,000 less than the highest bid.
The board previously approved a total project budget of $593,000, which includes "soft" costs for furniture and some equipment. With the construction bids coming in lower than expected, the library will have more than $170,000 to cover those additional expenses to finish off the space.
The library has the money on hand and will not need to seek additional funding.
The library’s unfinished basement will be renovated to include a kitchen, a dedicated Friends of the Library area, and three large meeting rooms.
MKS will begin construction on July 28, and expects to be finished within 90 days.
