(BRONSON) – The 45th annual Bronson Polish Festival got underway Thursday night with a long standing event.

The crowning of the Royal Court took place in the gym at St. Mary's Catholic Church and School with a full crowd in attendance. Named the 2014 Polish King and Queen were Roger Sikorski and Darlene Rzepka. The Polish Prince and Princess are Daniel McMichael and Lindsey Sikorski while the Junior Prince and Princess are Carter Sikorski and Samantha Smoker.

The Bronson Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year was also announced with the honor going to Garth Wilber. He and his father started White Star Auction in 1946, and in addition, Wilber also started other businesses that contributed to the Bronson economy for many years.

Just a few years ago there was some concern that the Festival may not continue, due to a lack of volunteers. Polish Festival Council President Candy Cox says more people have stepped up to help out and there have been more sponsors as well in the last four years. ...... {LISTEN}.

As with any festival, there are several long time favorite events and activities this year. But Cox says there are also some new events for 2014 Polish Festival. ...... {LISTEN}.

Also making a return this year is the women's softball tournament.

Today's activities include a pancake and sausage breakfast; crafts and vendors in the downtown area; Kid's Day; Polish food at different locations; the kids pedal tractor pulls; a turkey breast and Polish sausage dinner; the men's softball tournament; the talent show at 7 PM and the Polka In Her Shoes at 9 PM.
