(FREMONT) - A Cleveland woman was killed Sunday night in a two-vehicle crash on the Indiana Toll Road in Steuben County. Indiana State Police say according to a preliminary investigation, 66-year-old Veguilla Aquino of Chicago was driving a Mack truck with a dump trailer east at the 146.8 mile marker at about 10:40pm. The truck was said to have been traveling well below the posted speed limit. It is believed that other slower moving traffic was present at the time when Aquino’s vehicle was rear-ended by a 2008 Ford F-350, driven by 38 year old Ramon D. Griffin of Cleveland.
Griffin’s passenger, 37 year old Toyia Hill-Griffin, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Steuben County Coroner's Office. Ramon Griffin was flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center with numerous injuries.
Neither Aquino nor his passenger was injured. Everyone was said to have been wearing their seatbelts properly, but due to the severity of the crash, Hill-Griffin’s injuries could not have been reduced.
The crash remains under investigation. State Police were assisted by the Steuben County Sheriff Department, Steuben County E.M.S., the Steuben County Coroner’s Office, the Samaritan Helicopter and Fremont Firefighters.
