(BRONSON TOWNSHIP) – A section of U.S. 12 in Bronson Township was closed down for several hours Thursday afternoon following a two vehicle crash.
The Bronson Fire Department was called to an area between Carpenterson and Deer Park Roads around 3:30 PM Thursday. A Bronson man told authorities he was driving his pickup east when he crested a hill and saw a combine that was being pulled over to allow traffic to pass.
The driver of the pickup said he tried to brake but could not stop, and his vehicle struck the front left side of the combine, and then went into the westbound lane.
Three women from Sturgis, who authorities say had spent the day in Coldwater, were driving west and went under the back of the pickup and then into a ditch. The pickup continued spinning down the road until it came to a stop.
The driver of the pickup was not injured in the incident.
The driver of the car was trapped in the vehicle and had to be removed by firefighters using the Jaws of Life. A backseat passenger suffered serious injuries. She and the driver were flown to Kalamazoo hospitals for treatment.
A front seat passenger was taken to the Community Health Center of Branch County with neck and internal injuries.
Authorities have not released any names of those involved, pending notification of family members. The crash remains under investigation.
