LAGRANGE – LaGrange County Commissioners fired the tobacco-free coordinator for LaGrange, Steuben, Noble and DeKalb Counties this morning.
Greg Johnson had one year left on his contract but departed for California at the end of June, leaving the commissioners holding the bag for the state grant that funded the position.
County Attorney Kurt Bachman says Johnson is contractually responsible should an audit turn up issues with the grant.
Johnson's two-year contract was for $41,340.
Deborah Ponticorvo wants to take over the position part time for LaGrange and Steuben Counties. The Commissioners authorized a contract with her for $8,526 contingent upon the state approving a split of the service area.
In other business, the commissioners authorized Bachman to begin a non-compliance action against the owners of a building at 5520 South State Road 9 that was constructed without a permit.
