(UNION CITY) – A skull that was found a few days ago does not belong to a missing Colon area woman.
Michigan State Police say a skull was found by a fisherman in the St. Joseph River near the Jacksonburg Road Bridge in Leonidas Township. It was thought the skull might belong to Venus Stewart, who was kidnapped, killed and believed to be buried by her estranged husband Douglas a few years ago. Her body was never found.
MSP officials say that an anthropologist examined the skull and determined that it was not real. No further information has been released.
Douglas Stewart was found guilty in the death of his wife in St. Joseph County Circuit Court.
