(ALBION) - A man who was wanted for four hours after he allegedly battered an Albion woman and then tried to run over an Indiana State Police trooper on State Road 109 near Big Lake was taken into custody on Tuesday night. 23-year-old Anthony Michael McClellan was arrested after several citizens called authorities in Noble and Whitley Counties and reported seeing a man in the area of State Road 109 near Goss Grocery which was not far from where police searched earlier in the day.
Trooper Jonathon Amburgey caught and arrested McClellan after State Police say the suspect tried to make a run for it.
McClellan was booked at the Noble County Jail on charges related to arrest warrants for Possession of Methamphetamine, Theft (Receiving Stolen Property), Domestic Battery, Driving While Suspended, Motorcycle License Warrant and Operating Without Financial Responsibility. Detectives are continuing their investigation into Tuesday's events.
The Trooper who McClellan alledgly attempted to run over is a 15-year veteran whose name has not been released. The Trooper fired an unknown number of rounds from his duty pistol. He was not injured and it is believed that the suspect was not struck by the gunfire.
The Big Lake Church of God Daycare and Preschool was placed on a "lock-down" until 4:15pm when the church was given permission to allow families to pick their children up.
