City Commission Approves Two More IFEC Requests

(STURGIS) – Two more Sturgis businesses have received tax breaks on some new equipment.

During Wednesday’s meeting the Sturgis City Commission was presented with two Industrial Facilities Exemption Certificates requests. One was from Morgan Olson and the other for Parma Tube.

Cathy Knapp of Southwest Michigan First says the Morgan Olson is for just over six million dollars after the company purchased press brakes, a punch press, a laser machining center, robotics and tooling. The investment will allow the company to keep 65 employees and possibly hire 20 more.

Knapp says the Parma Tube request was for $450,000. The company is investing in two CNC tube benders, a tube and forming machine and supporting equipment. This investment will help retain 62 jobs and create three new ones.

Both IFEC’s are for 12 years.

The Commission approved both requests by unanimous votes.
