Mariners shut out Tigers 4-0
(SEATTLE) - Mariners rookie Roenis Elias has flashed signs of brilliance in the first two months of his major league career. A strong fastball. A big, bending curveball that can buckle hitters at the knees. Against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, Elias put the entire package together against one of the league's strongest lineups. The 25 year old left-hander from Cuba kept Detroit off balance in throwing a three-hitter, pitching Seattle to a 4-0 win. Elias (4-4) struck out eight and walked one in his 12th major league start, and the first one to last longer than seven innings. Elias is the first Mariners rookie to record a shutout since Freddie Garcia on Aug. 24, 1999, against the Tigers. Heading to the mound for the ninth inning, Elias had to face the heart of Detroit's lineup in Ian Kinsler, Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez. All three are hitting over .300 and were facing Elias for the fourth time in the game, but he made quick work of the trio to close out the victory. The Tigers only moved one runner in scoring position, and Elias matched a career high with 111 pitches.

White Sox beat Padres 4-1
(CHICAGO) – Chris Sale is a dominant power pitcher with the potential for a double-digit strikeout performance every time he takes the mound. But the Chicago White Sox aced said his focus against the San Diego Padres on Sunday was being economical. Sale pitched a two-hitter, Paul Konerko homered and the White Sox posted 4-1 victory to avoid being swept. Sale (5-0) struck out nine, walked none and threw 100 pitches in the complete game performance that lasted just 2:08. He froze Everth Cabrera for a called strike three to end the game, and retired the final 14 batters. Sale has allowed just two earned runs in his last 25 innings spanning four starts, and has a 1.59 ERA overall.

OTHER SUNDAY INTERLEAGUE SCORES
Cleveland 6 – Colorado 4
Texas 2 – Washington 0

Brewers shut out Cubs 9-0
(MILWAUKEE) – Kyle Lohse had the Chicago Cubs hitting harmless groundballs early in counts. He threw in the occasional fastball to keep batters off balance. Lohse allowed just three hits in a complete game shutout, and Ryan Braun had a two-run homer in the first inning a 9-0 rout against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. Milwaukee pounded Cubs ace Jeff Samardzija (1-5) for eight earned runs in three innings, raising his ERA from 1.68 to 2.54. Braun homered to left on the first pitch he saw from Samardzija, and the Brewers rolled from there with Samardzija having trouble locating his fastball. Lyle Overbay broke the game open with a three-run double in the third. Even Lohse had success at the plate with an RBI single to drive in Overbay to make it 8-0 for the pitcher's second run-scoring hit of the game. Lohse (7-1) needed just 93 pitches in tossing his eighth career shutout. One of the few highlights for Chicago was Brian Schlitter's single to lead off the seventh for the reliever's first major league hit. Otherwise it was a frustrating day for the last-place Cubs. They lost their 14th straight series on the road, a streak dating to last September. Samardzija's allowed eight earned runs, which is as many as he had given up in his previous six starts.
