Blue Jays beat Tigers in 9th, 5-3
(DETROIT) – The Toronto Blue Jays can win an occasional pitching duel, too, or at least hold their own until Brett Lawrie and the rest of their sluggers finally break through. In a game that was scoreless until the ninth inning, Lawrie's three-run homer highlighted a big burst for the Blue Jays, who then held on for a 5-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night. Drew Hutchison pitched seven scoreless innings for Toronto, which now has the second-best record in the American League but still faces questions about the sturdiness of its starting rotation. Anibal Sanchez matched Hutchison with seven scoreless innings, two hits, five strikeouts and no walks. But both bullpens came unglued in the ninth. The Blue Jays broke loose against Joe Nathan (2-2) to win this matchup of the AL East and AL Central leaders. After Toronto scored in the top half of the ninth, the Tigers made it interesting when J.D. Martinez hit a three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth for the Tigers. Casey Janssen came on and struck out Don Kelly for his ninth save in 10 chances. The Tigers avoided a second straight shutout, but have now lost three straight.

White Sox beat Dodgers 4-1
(LOS ANGELES) - After 19 consecutive starts without a victory, Hector Noesi finally got one against the struggling Los Angeles Dodgers. And his teammates were just as happy as he was to see the drought end. Jose Abreu homered for the second straight game after coming off the disabled list, and Tyler Flowers also went deep to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 4-1 victory Tuesday night. Noesi (1-3) won as a starter for the first time since May 6, 2012, with Seattle, after going 0-12 with a 5.42 ERA. The 27 year old right-hander allowed a run and five hits over six innings with six strikeouts. Former Dodgers reliever Ronald Belisario pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save. Dan Haren (5-4) gave up four runs on six hits through six innings. Abreu put the right-hander in a 2-0 hole right away with his team-high 17th homer, driving an 0-1 pitch into the lower seats in the left-field corner after Gordon Beckham doubled off the top of the fence in left.

Cubs beat Mets 2-1 in ninth
(CHICAGO) – Nate Schierholtz was one of the few dependable hitters in Cubs lineup a season ago. Now, he is starting to show signs he can shake out of an early season rut. Schierholtz hit a two-out game-ending RBI single, after Chris Goghlan homered to tie it in the eighth, and the Chicago Cubs beat the New York Mets 2-1 on Tuesday night. It was the first game-ending hit for the Cubs this season. Cubs reliever Hector Rondon (1-1) pitched a scoreless ninth inning. Curtis Granderson had three hits for the Mets and drove in their run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. The Mets failed to win a season-high four straight games. Anthony Rizzo led off the bottom of the ninth with a single off Mets reliever Scott Rice (1-2). After New York third baseman David Wright was unable to turn a hard-hit grounder into a double play, Schierholtz pulled a liner into the right-field corner against the left-handed Rice to win it.
