White Sox Top Tigers 6-5
(CHICAGO) – The Chicago White Sox jumped ahead, and the Detroit Tigers came right back. Jose Abreu had a big two run homer for the White Sox, and Victor Martinez responded with one of his own for the A.L. Central leaders. When the dust finally settled, the White Sox beat Detroit 6-5, snapping a three game losing streak. Gordon Beckham had three hits and Conor Gillaspie drove in two runs as Chicago bounced back from a sluggish trip to Southern California. The White Sox took two of three from the Dodgers before getting swept in a weekend series against the Angels. Martinez, Miguel Cabrera and Euenio Suarez connected for Detroit, which has dropped seven of nine. The win went to Hector Noesi (2-4) and the save to Ronald Belsario, who worked a shaky ninth inning for his sixth save. Alex Avila hit an RBI double off Belisario who then got three outs to end the game. Rick Porcello (8-4) struggled through five-plus innings for Detroit, allowing six runs and nine hits. He also committed a costly throwing error that set up Eaton's run-scoring hit.

Pirates beat Cubs 6-2
(PITTSBURGH) – Andrew McCutchen made a "minor" adjustment in the batter's box a couple weeks ago hoping to give him a fraction of a second longer to see what's coming. Consider the experiment a success. McCutchen hit his eighth homer and drove in three runs to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 6-2 win over the Chicago Cubs. McCutchen drove a two-run shot to right field in the third inning then added an RBI-double in the fifth off Edwin Jackson (4-6) as the Pirates bounced back from two tough losses to Milwaukee over the weekend in which they left a combined 18 runners on base. Charlie Morton (3-7) allowed one run over seven innings to win for the third time in his last four starts after beginning the season 0-6. Starlin Castro went 3 for 4 with his eighth home run and two RBI's for the Cubs, who fell to 10-22 on the road, the worst mark in all of baseball.
