White Sox beat Tigers 8-2
(CHICAGO) - After getting roughed up last month in a start at Houston, John Danks decided to break down his delivery and make a number of mechanical changes. The result has been a remarkable turnaround, which Danks continued with seven solid innings Wednesday night as the Chicago White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 8-2. Jose Abreu hit an early homer off Detroit starter Justin Verlander, then singled to start a seven-run burst in the sixth inning that gave Danks all the support he needed as the White Sox won for the second straight time against the American League Central leaders. Abreu went 3 for 4 with a walk and scored twice. The Cuban rookie has 19 home runs and 50 RBI's this season. Danks (5-5) allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings. He has permitted just five runs in 29 1/3 innings over his past four starts since allowing eight runs (seven earned) in 4 2/3 innings at Houston last month. Verlander (6-6) gave up seven runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings as the Tigers lost their third in a row. The seven runs in an inning matched a season high for Chicago. The White Sox also scored seven May 9 against Arizona.

Pirates double up Cubs in 4-2 win
(PITTSBURGH) - The National League MVP doesn't play favorites when it comes to hot streaks. Neither do the Pittsburgh Pirates, who rode Andrew McCutchen to another win Wednesday. McCutchen homered and reached base four times and the Pirates beat the Chicago Cubs 4-2 at rainy PNC Park on Wednesday night. McCutchen is batting .462 during a seven-game hitting streak and has 12 extra-base hits during 10 June games. Pittsburgh's Brandon Cumpton (2-2) pitched five effective innings, and the offense pounded Cubs starter Jason Hammel (6-4) for 11 hits in five innings, snapping his streaks of 14 1/3 innings without allowing a run and 52 innings without allowing a homer when McCutchen hit his 10th in the first. McCutchen also had a single and walked twice. Justin Wilson, Tony Watson, Mark Melancon and Jason Grilli follwed Cumpton with a hitless inning each. Grilli earned his 10th save of the seaton during what was his 400th career appearance. Luis Valbuena continued his recent strong hitting with three hits for last-place Chicago, which has lost three of four after a season-best five-game winning streak.
