Woods Giving Extension To Register For PGA Championship
Wednesday Aug 06, 2014 12:00am

(LOUISVILLE, KY) – Tiger Woods was supposed to declare by 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday whether he would take part in the final major of the year. Instead, not only was Woods not at Valhalla, site of the 96th PGA Championship, but he still has yet to declare if he is physically able to play beginning Thursday. Instead, according to the PGA of America, Woods contacted officials to ask for an extension on registration, which was granted. He can register up until his 8:35 a.m. ET tee time alongside Phil Mickelson and Padriag Harrington on Thursday morning. Woods withdrew Sunday from the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational after re-aggravating his surgically repaired back. If Woods is not on site at some point Wednesday, he'd be playing Valhalla blind should he register, and there have been changes since his appearances here in 2000 (PGA Championship) and 2008 (Ryder Cup). His caddie, Joe LaCava, has been on site scouting the course in hopes that his boss will be able to recover in time to tee off in what could be his final shot at qualifying for the Ryder Cup team and perhaps the FedEx Playoffs. Woods has won the PGA Championship four times during his career.
